Relaxed dental care in Courtenay, BC
Conscious sedation keeps you relaxed and comfortable during treatment. Technically awake but deeply at ease, with short-term amnesia and no loss of consciousness. Available for patients of all ages, including children.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is inhaled through a small mask placed over the nose. It produces a calm, relaxed feeling within minutes and wears off quickly once removed - most patients can drive themselves home.
Oral Sedation
Ativan is prescribed an hour before your appointment for deeper relaxation. You remain conscious but deeply at ease, often with short-term amnesia of the procedure. This is ideal for patients with significant dental anxiety.

Sedation dentistry FAQs
What sedation options are available at Crown Isle Dental?
Crown Isle Dental offers nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation (Ativan). Both are available for children and adults.
What is oral sedation and how does it work?
Oral sedation uses Ativan, prescribed an hour before your appointment for deeper relaxation. You remain conscious but deeply at ease, often with short-term amnesia of the procedure. You will need a driver to take you home afterward.
Is nitrous oxide (laughing gas) safe?
Yes. Nitrous oxide is a well-established, safe sedation option for patients of all ages including children. It produces a calm, relaxed feeling during treatment and wears off quickly - most patients can drive themselves home afterward.
Is sedation available for children?
Yes. Both nitrous oxide and oral sedation are available for children at Crown Isle Dental. We provide gentle, age-appropriate care for anxious young patients.
Do I need to tell you in advance that I want sedation?
Yes - especially for oral sedation, which requires a prescription in advance. Please let us know when booking your appointment so we can prepare. Nitrous oxide is easier to arrange but advance notice is still appreciated.
